Trip over:
1 gray whale pair, mom and calf
150 common dolphin
The Vanguard had a full boat of 80 passengers including two campers. 50+ came on the hike traveling from Ohio, Texas and Colorado. Also a small group of students and their teacher from Laguna Blanca school in Hope Ranch. Additionally, 23 of these were friends from an exercise group visiting from Los Angeles - I enjoyed watching them perform Tai Chi on the bluff together. Everyone had great questions about the gulls and their habits and behaviors, were thrilled to see the eggs but disappointed to have missed the coreopsis blooming. The weather was a warm 64 degrees, winds 8 knots and not a cloud in the sky.
Thanks to Captain Jason, crew Mike and Lisa for getting us there safely.
Sunday
45 passengers
Lauren Boross and Kat Wasden accompanied a group of young adults from Outward Bound, collectively eliminating more crystalline ice plant. Visitors were from South Carolina, Oregon, San Francisco, Camarillo, Los Angeles, and even my hometown, San Gabriel, CA. 28 people joined me on the hike and we had some really interesting observations about the gulls and their eggs. Again, some were sorry to miss the coreopsis but planning to reschedule for next years blooming season. The day started off foggy and overcast. The sun never did come out but it remained a warm 64 degrees according to the weather station - trace of moisture in the bottom of the rain gauge which I know the island plants were happy to receive!
Thanks to Captain Jason, crew Laurie and Joel for getting us back to the mainland.
