As in the Tunicate family. No stinging as they are not in the jellyfish family. They form stunningly long chains as if they are holding hands and swimming together alà DNA helix. We have hordes of them at Scorpion RNch, many glowing at night with the dinoflagellate. They seem to have a central ganglion and are a favorite food during warm months of our Mola Mola! Hence more Mola Mola sitings. Beyond this info, I'll have to Google Scholar... Visitors are amazed at their swimming abilities such as those that swim like bat rays and many known as "Vagina Salps" who swim with an umbrella motion opening and closing! True name! They are wonderful little organisms!

More to learn, always...
Tina Stephens

Sent from Yahoo! Mail for iPhone
