1 humpback whale
6 blue whales
1 minke whale
1500 ++++++ common dolphins
3 ocean sunfish (Mola mola)
1 bald eagle

Most of the action was somewhere in the midst of the “marine layer” close to the west end of SCI. We actually saw a couple of “used whales” as Capt Matt put it....blues we had seen earlier in the day on our way home. One is particular was noticeably thin. I was able to get ID shots of at least 3 of the blues and the humpback was most cooperative. Clearly krill is making the scene, and not only the our elite group of visitors get to join the 1% club, but exclusive entrance into the group that has witnessed a Mn “going to the bathroom”, as Capt Matt put it so daintily. Commons in large pods were evident the closer we got to SCI. The dedicated birders on the trip were thrilled to spot the eagle high up on the cliff to the West of Painted Cave. We returned a bit late to the harbor to sunny Santa Barbara skies.

Lots of visitors from other countries, children in tow, a few from Santa Barbara and a family group from Georgia.
