7 humpbacks (close view)
11 more humpbacks (distance)
1000 common dolphins
3 Pacific white-sided dolphins
Moving feeding frenzy with above whales, dolphins, a few sea lions, numerous brown pelicans,
shearwaters & western seagulls
Despite rocking waves (& a cast of seasick international passengers), the sea presented us with quite a show today.
Serious feeding was the plot with a "set" of warm but windy weather. Captains Mat and Dave, along with Tasha on
board, did their best to minimize the waves' impact as we motored to the drop-off right before the shelf of western SCI.
We then followed the bait fish and their predators, moving slowly eastward along the same line.
Passengers from Germany, Switzerland, Holland, France, New Zealand, Australia, Canada, Georgia, Illinois & Maryland
roused themselves to enjoy the unfolding spectacle. It was a pleasure serving with fellow naturalists Natalie Swan and
Lisa Angle (PID). A rough but entertaining morning (8:00am to 12:30pm) on the water.
