Ocean and Island People,
Last night Tara Brown and I had a very attentive 97 campers attend our virtual marine mammal watch trip through our CINMS and the CINP. We camped the night prior and spread the word campsite to campsite and even on the beach. Although the weather was fantastic beach weather, we had to tell those visiting our shores for the first time that their CINP did exist 20+ miles of shore! Summer evaporation haze made the islands invisible all weekend. However, many beach goers did see Bottle nose dolphin cruise the shoreline.
Only two families present were not from California, and the out-of- staters were from neighboring western states. A higher than normal percentage said they had been whale watching, and to our CINP: Maybe 33% the former, and 20% the latter. We had lots of good questions and many came forward to our whale kit and display table at the end where we had pamphlets and whale watching plus CINP access info for them. Again, the State Park audiences are almost tall families, with at least 50% being kids. It was a good outing. We will e at Carpinteria State Beach next Saturday night, 8:30. The public can also park outside and walk in. Paul
