[CINC] Carp State Beach-6/29

Dear Colleagues ( Sp right this time!),
 Last night 72 campers at Carpinteria State Beach attended  our "Marine Mammals of our CINMS and CINP" presentation. This was a good showing, considering most stayed on a very crowded beach to beat the heat late into the day, starting dinner later than usual. Tara Brown and Shirley Johnson were the usual Carp Crew helping out, and Debbie Shelley was a very welcome newcomer!

 As usual, at the State Beach outreaches, our crowd was decidedly Californian ( 1 family from Arizona and 1 from the Midwest ). Half had never been whale watching, and only 25% had been to our CINP. Exactly 50% were kids. We had seven dogs, all decidedly more well behaved than the two raccoons that began screaming and fighting at the top a tree adjacent to the outdoor theater in the middle of our presentation ( census by Shelly! ).

 Highlights of this show were Shirley's animated description of the very acrobatic Humpback she saw on her last boat outing, and Tara's always mesmerizing Chumash story of the Rainbow Bridge. Also, your's truly was delighted to her a few children addressing their mothers as they came forward at the end to our display table, as "Mamma Mammal". ( They having learned that the word "Mamma" derives from the obviously related description of what a  mammal is). Beat the heat on or in the sea! Paul
