I saw this story on the BBC News iPad App and thought you should see it.
** Annual shark kills 'hit 100 million' **
The most accurate assessment to date of the impact of commercial fishing on
sharks suggests around 100 million a year are being killed.

The plight of over fishing of sharks for their fins is tough to tally. This article spells out the difficulties and that most of it goes to China for their shark fin soup. Current regulations haven't helped and many of the sharks are thrown overboard at sea so they cannot be properly counted.
"They are not reproducing fast enough to keep up with the rate we are pulling them out of the ocean”, stated Dr. Demian Chapman, Stony Brook University.
