The bottom line for Sunday's trip aboard the Islander
     400 Common Dolphins
        10 Pacific Gray Whales

What a difference a day made in the sea conditions between Saturday's
pristine ocean conditions and what Sunday held forth. The AM trip aboard
the Islander encountered 2 Gray's near platform Grace. These two spent
little time at the surface making viewing somewhat challenging. The
additional 3 Gray's were sighted just off Cavern Pt. A couple of small
pods of dolphins were also encountered.

With the seas already "lumpy' and despite predictions of the weather
building, Captain Dave in consultation with the office decided to make the
PM run. Good decision. It was moderately rough out to Anacapa where upon
we cruised the south side in flat seas devoid of wind. As we neared the
Anacapa Passage there were numerous spouts sighted. Captain Dave got the
Islander situated on 5 Gray's who provided the passengers with some
outstanding looks.

Aboard with Captain Dave were crew members Luke and Paige as well as
passengers from such diverse places as Germany, China, Denmark,
Netherlands, Florida, Colorado and a few other assorted states.

I was pleased to have fellow naturalist Rose Medina aboard along with one
member of the naturalist class of 2013, Gail Graham. All agreed that it
was another wonderful day in the SB Channel.
