Morning and afternoon trips were cancelled today, but the noon trip did go out with about 80 people on board, most from the "Asian Students Speaking English" group from UCSB.

We saw the usual sea lions on the buoy leaving the harbor and after traveling East for a while came across a pod of about 400 common dolphin.  After spending time with them and the usual "oohs and aahs" from passengers as the dolphin cavorted by the boat we headed West to look for Gray whales.  We found one lone specimen who wasn't too cooperative, taking only a couple short breaths on the surface, then making a rolling diving for several minutes and showing no flukes.  However, the customers were happy and the questions were many and very good.

Naturalists aboard included Carolyn McCleskey as PID and our two shadow trainees Maura Jacobs and Ralph Daniel.

Captain Mat was at the helm along with Dave, and Tasha was in the galley.
