Had a beautiful day out at the islands although the coastal fog might have said otherwise. We headed out in the AM with 18 guests and once we made it out past the channel the visibility picked up and we were join by a small pod of common dolphins probably about 100 or so. Not long after that we found 2 gray whales heading north and we were able to follow them for quite awhile and got to see some nice views of flukes.
The PM trip we had 68 guests from all over; from Ventura, Toronto, Oklahoma and Europe. Nice mix of people. Same conditions as before lots of coastal fog but once we got over to Santa Cruz viz improved and we were treated to seeing a Fin whale. Didn't stick around for long but everyone got to see it. We headed over towards the backside of Anacapa and were treated to a very large pod of common dolphins probably close to 1000 and the photographers of the group were able to get lots of images of bow riding and wake riding. Pretty amazing. After that we came upon 3 gray whales and were able to follow them for quite some time and got great looks of flukes etc. Definitely a good time had by all of us.
Thanks to Capt Anthony, Joel and Steve.
