9:00 AM sightings:
2 lone grays
1 pair grays
75 dolphin
Captain Mike and crew plus Dave from the Condor Express were on board along with naturalists Cubby and me. Ali Widmar was also along on a shadow trip. The seas were a little rough and the (old) Condor was rockin' & rollin' a bit with several folks feeling sick. However, we had some good sightings, and as usual, the dolphin put on a show for the passengers. The previous day Cubby had visited a second grade class that was aboard. At least over night, those kids retained an amazing amount of information on the whales. Kudos to Cubby for being a good outreach instructor.
Noon overflow trip sightings:
4 grays, two engaged in mating behavior
three pods of dolphin - 50, 50 and 200
Captain Graham and crew were aboard along with John Kuizenga and me as naturalists. Steffanie Wise was on the trip as a shadow. The seas had calmed down from the 9:00 AM trip and the kids and parents from Charter Oaks School had a great trip. Both kids and parents asked great questions. I spoke to quite a few parents about the islands and Park. Many of them said they would be planning day trips to the islands later in the summer.
