Monday, March 25, Channel Islands Harbor
Morning trip on Vanguard
Approx. 35 passengers.
Calm, cloudy morning.
Captain Anthony, Crew Steve and DeeDee. Naturalists Larry D., Rose M., and Hank M. (This was Hank's "certification" trip.)
No whales were seen until after we rounded Anacapa. At 11:30, about 4 miles north of the west end of the island, we came upon a single juvenile grey "lounging," heading in no particular direction, . We stayed with this animal for a good thirty minutes. DeeDee provided excellent interpretation the entire time. The guests, many of whom believed we were to be skunked on this trip, enjoyed many a good look at this lazy, young animal. It turned out to be a good trip with an excellent crew.
