whales
25 Common
Dolphins
PM Trip
5 Gray
whales
100 Common
Dolphins
Captain Dustin and crew Paul rewarded both “full boat” trips
with several Gray whale and Common dolphin sightings. The seas were calm and the visibility was
great. Captain Dustin found the first
group of 3 Gray whales less than 2 miles offshore. The
next group of 4 Gray whales was swimming near the surface and provided many
photo opportunities for about 30 minutes. On the way back, we encountered a small pod of Common Dolphins.
On the afternoon trip, we found a mother and calf Gray whale
about ½ mile out from the Channel Island breakwater. Captain Dustin carefully followed them for
about 30 minutes as they headed north. Later,
we saw about 100 Common Dolphins who were bow-riding. The camera shutters were clicking away, to
everyone’s delight. Next, we followed 1
large Gray whale for about 30 minutes. On the way back, we saw 2 more Gray whales in the distance, but did not
have time to get into camera range. All
of the passengers seemed to enjoy the wonderful day in channel and a great
whale watching experience.
