Foggy start, but glassy, calm seas, made for an easy crossing with a short look at a gray whale, with Capt. Lee at the helm to bring a full boat to S.Cruz I.
All except the 55 school kids +  parents and teachers came ashore at Scorpion, while the school group continued on to Prisoners.  Perfect conditions for the kayakers, who we hikers
caught up with at Potato Harbor under sunny skies.  No hike leader (hope you have
recovered, Cubby ) so I became the interpreter-at-large to about 14 hikers, including 7
children from 6-11, who all completed their Jr. Ranger qualifications and received their
badges on the way back to Ventura.   Coreopsis was still blooming, banks of golden
yarrow, and yellow paintbrush starting to open, with bluedicks popping up here and there.
Fab day as usual, as dolphins appeared on the way home to charm the very interesting
group of vacationers, ably taken care of by the outstanding crew !  Carolyn McCleskey
