AM trip:
50 dolphinscow/calf pair gray whales
PM trip:
a sad zero except for the Ca Sea Lions on the buoy leaving SB Harbor
Folks from Germany, India, Great Britain, Texas, Kentucky and Minnesota, along with several local So Cal passengers, enjoyed glass like, calm waters today. On the morning trip we saw the California Sea Lions lounging on the buoy as we left the harbor. We soon spotted a small pod of Common Dolphins who stayed with us for quite awhile, giving passengers a lovely show. Shortly before returning to the docks, we spotted a cow/calf pair moving North along the Santa Barbara coastline. We were treated to a wonderful show of the juvenile spy hopping and partial breaches. We stayed with the pair for about half an hour before heading back to pick up the afternoon trip.
The afternoon group got good looks at the sea lions on the buoy but after that we were unable to locate any whales or dolphins. The winds picked up a bit from the morning trip and passengers enjoyed a lovely day on the water despite the lack of sightings. Several said they planned to use their rain checks tomorrow morning in the hopes that they would see some whales.
Captain Kyle and First Mate Ari kept passengers informed while we searched for wildlife! It was a wonderful, calm day on the Channel aboard the fun Double Dolphin!
