Karen and I welcomed about 35 people a day May 10-12 to the wild world of Western gull nesting.
By our estimates:
0 chicks
1% still playing the mating game
10% singles and pairs monitoring empty nests
74% singles and pairs caring for 1-3 eggs (majority 3 eggs)
15% standing around, perhaps on break from nest sitting
For you birdwatchers, we saw Western Tanager, Wilson Warbler, and Pigeon Guillemot besides a few Brown Pelicans and Western Gulls.
