This Memorial Day week-end 2013,
Friday, I led the Cherry Canyon Hike on Santa Rosa Island with Larry Discroll as my shadow. On the way over we met a volunteer (soooo sorry I do not remember you name) who was there to inventory the "tack room"). It was a fabulous day with:
75 Common Dolphins going out
100 Common Dolphins on the way back
2 UCSB Professors (Centers Black Studies and Middle Eastern Studies)
2 from Slightly Overweight Sisters from the mid-west and central California
Larry and I offered apples to eight (8) horses hanging out in the corral. Even though they are "wild horses" now and the corral is open. But then, maybe they we just trying to stay out of the wind.
Monday, I led hikes from Scorpion Anchorage to the Cavern Point Loop on Santa Cruz Island for Paul Petrich******
1 Stellar Sea Lion (on the Ventura bouy)
1 Island Fox (atho most day hikers I spoke also reported at seeing at least 1-3)
IPCO had four Boats at 149 max on the return.
My return was the last of the day on the NEW Island Adventure with Captain Jimmie managing a Beauport of 5-7 with 8-10 foot swells. We surfed home!
Today, on one of my hikes there was a man from Iran who could not understand why we do not more for tourists --- horse back rides, at least. Is this what the NPS has planned for Santa Rosa?
Maybe?

*** Paul Petrich will receive the "Volunteer of the Year" award for the National Marine Sancuraries on June 4th while you are at the CINC picnic --- please toast!
