Ocean and Island People,
Myself, Tara and Bruce Mathews had 65 to 70 campers attend our Marine Mammals of the CINP & CINMS presentation at El Capitan State Beach tonight. This was a pleasant surprise, considering the high absenteeism at the park due to high winds, local fires, and a morning earthquake centered almost directly under the campground! There was another slight screw-up by your's truly who posted flyers about the presentation that stated it was a Carpinteria State Beach!
We had a great crowd, with almost half being 10-13 yr old Montessori students from Redlands. Bruce gave a great account of his last whale watch tour where-in he described classic near-boat Humpback lunge-feeding. Tara mesmerized the audience with her telling of the Chumash Rainbow Bridge story. Again, the concluding show-and-answer questions session at the whale kit table was a packed event. We will do follow up presentations at both Carpinteria and El Capitan in June, July, and August. Paul
