Hi All,
We wear a uniform representing the CINC and CINMS. When I was trained I was also told to take with me "AT ALL TIMES" the document I signed that states: " Dear CINC Volunteer: Enclosed please find the following documentation that you should carry with you when you are on official volunteer duty: NPS and Sanctuary volunteer agreement form (SF-52). If you staff island trips and whale watches, you should have both a Sanctuary and NPS agreement form (SF-52 and Form 10-85).
These forms will ensure that you have the necessary paperwork in the event you have an injury while performing the duties of your volunteer job.
It is important that you remember that you are not covered for activities not described in your position description. In the event you are asked to work on a new project that isnot described here, you will need to contact the appropriate volunteer coordinator for a position description for that particular project."!!
I read this to mean we are not covered liability wise, nor is our NPS and NOAA, if we get injured while performing duties. I will personally volunteer for an entity out of uniform and under a temporsary contract with them, in writing, which clearly stipulates I am not representing the Federal Government during the shutdown. Both sides in this governmental debate (??) have lawyers on the prowl, trying to get some money out of it , too. Paul
