<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN-LEFT: 1in; TEXT-INDENT: -1in; LINE-HEIGHT: 115%"><SPAN style="FONT-FAMILY: 'Times New Roman','serif'"> Rising human carbon dioxide (CO<SUB>2</SUB>) emissions, primarily from fossil fuel burning, are forcing fundamental changes in the chemical balance of the world's oceans. On average, seawater is already 30% more acidic than it was during pre-industrial times because of human CO<SUB>2</SUB> emissions. This process of "ocean acidification" is forecast to dramatically increase in the years ahead, as CO<SUB>2</SUB> emissions continue to grow. The fundamental change to ocean water quality this will cause could have grave implications for marine species and ecosystems around the world, and in the Channel Islands. Fabry will speak about her research, and discuss the implications for Sanctuary resources and management.<o:p></o:p></SPAN></P>
