Montecito Union School Students: Giving to a Solid Future
Some may think that to be a significant donor to the Scholarship
Foundation of Santa Barbara, you have to give large amounts of money each
year. But as the students at Montecito Union have shown, this is not the
case. Each year the Student Council donates $500 to the Foundation to be
given to a student who graduated from Montecito Union and Santa Barbara
High School.
"The students get excited about it every year," say Principal Bronte
Reynolds.
The students raise the money throughout the year through a recycling
program and running a student store every Friday. At the store, the
students manage all the details, from stocking the shelves, to keeping
books, to ordering supplies.
At the school's year-end awards assembly, the recipient is invited to
attend and give a short speech. "It's a good opportunity for students to
see leadership in a Montecito Union graduate."
