General Scholarship Program/Alexander Bee
Fund/Architectural Fund: Awards range from $500 to $2,500; average
award is $1,300. Available to under-graduates and a small number of
graduate students, awards are based on evaluated financial need,
motivation, academic history and potential. Awards are made for one
academic year only, and applicants must re-apply each year if they wish to
be considered for funds for subsequent years.
Honor Scholarship Program: Honor
scholarships are only available to high school seniors in South Santa
Barbara County who are graduating in June 1997. Applicants must
demonstrate outstanding academic achievement, including very high SAT
scores and very high GPA in 10th through 12th grades. The competition for
these awards is extremely rigorous, a special committee interview is
required, and awards must be used at a four-year college. For many of
these awards, evaluated financial need is not required. Awards are made
for one academic year only, and applicants must re-apply each year if they
wish to be considered for funds in subsequent years.
Art Scholarship Competition: Art
Scholarships are only available to high school seniors in South Santa
Barbara County who are graduating in June 1997. In addition, applicants
must major in Art or an Art-related field at college. A short, special
application is required to apply and your art portfolio must be presented
for judging. Art Judges will choose the scholarship winners based upon
your portfolio; evaluated financial need is not required. Call the

one academic year only. Applicants may re-apply to the General Scholarship
Program in subsequent years if they wish.
Sue Grafton Merit Scholarship For Fiction
Writing: The Sue Grafton Merit Scholarship for Fiction Writing is only
available to high school seniors in South Santa Barbara County who are
graduating in June 1997. In addition, applicants must declare a
writing-related major and plan to have a career in fiction writing. A
minimum of 2 samples of the applicant's fiction writing is required, along
with a recomendation from applicant's English or Writing instructor. The
applicant must attend a four-year college. This award is made for one
academic year only. Applicants may re-apply to the General Scholarship
Program in subsequent years if they wish.
