Camp Internet is a distance learning program sponsored by the RAIN
network, and is serving as an interpretive services 'Outpost' for the
Sustainable Seas Expedition (SSE). During the SSE stop at the Channel
Islands National Marine Sanctuary, which surrounds the four northern
California Channel Islands off the coast of Santa Barbara, Ventura, and
Los Angeles counties, Camp Internet hosted a number of special activities,
including:
May 13th LIVE chat with Camp Internet staff and the Student summit team
May 19-20thth LIVE Three classrooms subscribed to the Camp will be heading out to Anacapa Island and one to Catalina Island to report on the marine life they encounter - watch for student postings
May 24th LIVE reportage from the Student Summit bringing 30 students
together to initiate SSE research investigations; pre-event reception at
the RAIN Community Internet Center in Santa Barbara
May 25th LIVE chat with SSE Researchers in conjunction with the Oaks Middle School Science Night May26th LIVE chat with the Cabrillo High School Aquarium's submersible project morning and afternoon
May 27th LIVE chat and activities on site during the SSE Education Day at
the Channel Islands National Park headquarters at Ventura Harbor
June 1st LIVE chat and real video marine life broadcast with student reporters on assignment at the USC Wrigley Marine Center on Catalina, a southern California Channel Island, and SSE researchers off the northern Channel Islands. June 5th LIVE exhibit at the SSE Open House at the Santa Barbara Harbor
Camp Internet is a non-profit educational organization honored to have
been selected by the SSE and NOAA team to assist in increasing public
participation in the SSE explorations. The Camp is building online
learning communities around challenging science and humanities research
topics with participants across the United States and abroad. Camp
Internet offers a year round study program on the California Channel
Islands, and has recently earned a Smithsonian Innovation Network award
and support from the California Department of Education, USDA Rural
Utilities Service, and the Channel Islands National Marine Sanctuary. To
