Introductory Sustainable Seas Expedition
Student Summit Meeting
On Thursday May 6th, the introductory Student Summit meeting for the Sustainable Seas Expedition was held at the Santa Barbara Harbor. This initial meeting, led by Julie Goodsen from Channel Islands National Marine Sanctuary, focused on introducing the SSE project to thirty students from high schools throughout the tri-county area. After a brief discussion and slideshow by Goodsen, the students and their teachers watched a short video on the SSE project, and then divided into four groups to choose their research projects. These projects will focus on a living resource of the sanctuary, increasing the students' understanding and knowledge of the resources in the region, as well as the research process itself. These projects may be used as suggestions for future Sustainable Seas Expeditions research activities.
