The 1999 summer Camp Internet Teacher Training Workshop
was a great success. Teachers and librarians from four counties in
California came together with a wide range of technology abilities,
and all were challenged by new learning opportunities. Activities
varied from an exciting cruise out to Anacapa Island and hikes with
naturalists, to sitting down in the computer lab and learning to use
the Camp listserv and post field reports of their experiences. Teachers
also were hosted for excellent tours and classes at the Santa Barbara
Botanic Garden for native California plant identification and Native
American uses for plants, and at the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural
History for a tour of the Indian hall and even into the vaults to
see the rare Indian basket collection. The Channel Islands National
Park hosted the first morning session, and the Channel Islands National
Marine Sanctuary hosted another morning session. An afternoon GIS
session was also held in the computer lab.
