On June 5th 1999, The Channel Islands National Marine
Sanctuary and The Santa Barbara Maritime Museum held an openhouse
to introduce the public to the Maritime Museum and The Sustainable
Seas Expedition. The six hour event included exhibits and activities,
a press conference, a Chumash welcoming ceremony, and appearances
by both the Deepworker submersibles and the Chumash Tomol Elye'wun.
Among the people present were Congresswoman Lois Capps and National
Geographic's Explorer in Residence Dr. Silvia Earle. Along with being
on hand to broadcast this community event, RAIN also had a booth setup
to introduce the public to it's Camp
Internet Online Distance Education program.
