Title

John Audubon: The Man and His Antique Natural History Prints

Topics

To most of us, John James Audubon is a household name, but few people know much about his life. Myth and erroneous facts about his birth have been perpetuated. Even though Audubon himself contributed to the problem, researchers have now established the truth through painstaking record searches. Linda Miller, Curator of the Maximus Gallery at the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History, will discuss this extraordinary man and his fascinating life

The Museum's collection of antique natural history prints includes nearly one hundred prints from Audubon's famous work, The Birds of America, as well as sixty lithographs from his mid-nineteenth century work on America's mammals, The Viviparous Quadrupeds of North America. Join us for a rare and personal behind the scenes look at some of these original prints in the Maximus Gallery collection room.
