Title |
Costa Rica, Host to a Wealth of Wildlife |
Topics |
Costa Rica's diversity of birds and wildlife is no accident. Mountains sandwiched between the Pacific and Caribbean coasts cover more than half of the land area. These diverse habitats harbor more than 800 species of birds, 200 reptiles, 160 amphibians, and a wide variety of mammals. Approximately 28% of Costa Rica (a country the size of West Virginia) has been set aside in national parks and conservancy areas to preserve this diversity. Jose Calvo's PowerPoint presentation will depict rain and cloud forests, mountains and seashore habitats and some of the more remarkable birds and wildlife such as monkeys, sloth's, and iguanas that call Costa Rica home. |
