
Act I, Scene III
- Goneril learns that her father
struck Oswald
- As a result, Goneril is upset with
her father and instructs Oswald not to carry out his requests with efficiency
- Also instructs that if she is asked
for by Lear, tell him that she is sick
- King Lear returns from hunting
- Goneril comments that he still
thinks that he has his sovereignty that he's given away
- Goneril says that old men must
be treated like babies
- Encouragement when they are good,
but a scolding when they are out of line
- If Lear doesn't like this treatment,
he can live with Regan (Even though he'll be treated the same way)
- Goneril instructs Oswald and other
to treat Lear's knights rudely
- Goneril requests that Regan take
the same action
