
Act III, Scene VI
- Scene begins with Gloucester leading
everyone to the farmhouse
- Gloucester leaves to find food
and supplies
- Lear's madness makes him want revenge
against his daughters
- Lear will "arraign them straight"
- Appoints Edgar and the Fool judges
- Two joint-stools (symbolizing Goneril
and Regan) are put on trial
- The Fool likes his job, Edgar thinks
that the King's actions are very sad (Because Lear is going mad) and has
a hard time acting
- Kent encourages the King to rest
for a while
- Gloucester returns and announces
that there is a plot to kill Lear who must be placed on a litter (An enclosed
couch) and taken to Dover
- Everyone leaves, Edgar stays and
speaks of his own suffering
- Edgar prays for King's safety
