
Act IV, Scene VI
- Edgar leads Gloucester to the cliff
- Gloucester is certain that Edgar
has changed his voice
- He now sounds clear and rational
- Edgar describes a magnificent cliff
(Pretending) to Gloucester
- Gloucester prays to God and repents
for his life
- Gloucester falls over and faints
- When Gloucester is revived, Edgar
convinces him that he fell off of a huge cliff, yet survived
- Lear enters
- Gloucester expresses sympathy for
Lear
- Cordelia's search party finds Lear,
but he escapes them
- Oswald now finds Gloucester and
announces that he is going to kill him
- Edgar protests and kills Oswald
- Before Oswald dies, he asks Edgar
to deliver a letter to Edmund (He refers to Edmund as the Earl of Gloucester)
- Edgar reads the letter which is
from Goneril to Edmund, professing her love and encouraging Edmund to kill
