Uploading Your Files

Your User Area

Each RAIN user has 5 megabytes of disk space available, and an additional 5MB (10MB total) with a 7 day grace period on the additional 5. Your User Area is accessed when you connect to RAIN via a shell or telnet connection or via FTP using your User ID and password for access.

Creating a Directory

Your Web site files must be uploaded to RAIN's computer to be viewed on the Internet. You put them in your user area in a directory named
public_html

To access your user area and create the directory, you can use a shell connection, connect via telnet, or use an FTP client which allows directorry modification (WS_FTP, for example).

Uploading the Files

You can upload the files using one of three methods (or more if you know of any).
  1. Shell connection using either Xmodem or Zmodem (preferred)
  2. FTP (Use your User ID/password)
  3. Netscape 2.0
Upload the files and check the page(s) on the Web by connecting and going to your address. Be sure to check all of the links and that images load properly.
Your address will be http://www.rain.org/~<User ID>/<filename>, for example, http://www.rain.org/~elw/rainsoft.html. If you name the first page index.html, then it can be accessed without the filename, for example, http://www.rain.org/~elw.
