Computer Software Engineer, Retired

I took an early out on 1 September 1995, having worked for 25 years already! I last worked as a computer software engineer doing software testing and creating software test tools and computer simulations. At the moment, I am still settling into my new lifestyle, but I do send out an occasional resume.

Now that I am retired with all this time on my hands, I have a whole list of things to do. I am also expanding my Creative Mischief SIG to the public sector in the form of Weird ElectroMechanics, with hoaxes for the masses.

My Home Page, My House

Designed by crazed Cubists as an Experimental Map

Wanna do a map?

All rooms now link to other pages, or use the index below the picture.

my_menu

This is a highly experimental map of my house, which is related to my interests:

The Driveway is where I keep my car, although I can almost fit it in the garage between the stacks of boxes to be unpacked.
The Garage is where I keep my ski stuff, buried in boxes of packed books.
The Kitchen is where I fix my sushi.
The Living Room is where I display my thesis and degrees.
The Den is where I write my articles.
The Hall is leads to where I work on my astrology charts.
The Closet is where I keep some of my coins.
The Studio is where I keep much of my arts and crafts.
The Bedroom is where the cats hide when guests are present, and links to genealogy (bad pun).
The Back Yard is where I practice giving my talks.
The Front Yard is where my friends enter my world.
And now for something completely different, The Larch. No, it's not a link to a Monty Python site, so do come back.

Learning All The Time...

Degrees and so forth:
BSME, 1970, Michigan Technological University
MSEE, 1985, California State University, Northridge

Former Adjunct Professor of EL/EE, California Polytechnic University, San Luis Obispo

Interests

My two cats Buckaroo and Squeaky

My turtle Strawberry (his favorite fruit)

I live alone with my two cats in Oceano, surrounded by wild peacocks. A box turtle lives in my back yard, but it misses Oxnard and all the snails we had.

My new house My house and stealth car

Now that I am living in San Luis Obispo County, I hope to teach part time at Cal Poly or Cuesta College, or possibly even Allan Hancock College down in Santa Maria. I also have a lot of other stuff planned for retirement.

Other Interests

I love sports cars and twin-cam engines, thus I had three Fiats (one was really a Lancia, but the engine is similar). Yes, I know, FIAT stands for "Fix It Again Tony." I have sold off the Fiats and the Lancia My primary car is now a very dependable and reliable stealth gray Plymouth Acclaim. I needed a reliable car, even though I have lots of time to work on cars now, and I wanted one that is "invisible."

I play with Astrology and genealogy.

I also collect coins and have added a page for that.

I like to ski and belong to the SLO Skiers.

I am active in a number of groups.

Mensa
Mensa Creative Mischief SIG
American Society of Mechanical Engineers
Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers
Three singles clubs in the local area and I have been known to place a singles ad in a number of places.

I like sushi, and after hours and dollars of observation I often make my own.

More craziness for Monty Python fans, and a silly game.

A Living Surrealist

One of my paintings Solar Harvest, 15 x 30 inches, acrylic

I have been doing surrealism for years, primarily in the form of acrylic paintings (many of them erotic). My only art training is in ceramics, and perhaps because of my Hutschenreuther ancestry clay is in my blood. My ceramics teacher felt I paint like Magritte, and I tend to agree. I saw the Magritte exhibit in Houston a couple of years ago, and have also visited the Salvador Dali Museum in St. Petersburg, FL. I also found a common site with both Dali and Magritte pages.

Speaking Topics

I often speak at Mensa gatherings and have developed quite a list of topics. These include talks and lectures, hands-on workshops, and storytelling sessions. Many of these talks can be adapted to meetings of other groups, and I would welcome an invitation to do so, unless I am skiing or attending a Mensa gathering. I am even considering a business based on this.

Articles I Have Written

I have written a number of humorous articles. Don't let the fact that they were printed in the local Mensa newsletter scare you, you won't need a dictionary or an encyclopedia to read them! I will upload more as I locate the ones I have done, and write some more.
