Yes, I do sometimes dress up!

But usually I dress more casually, like this --

FLASH: The relationship-to-end-all-relationships that I was involved with at the end of 1996 did not work out as I had hoped. I am once again openly looking for a suitable relationship.

Divorced (1978), non-smoker, no children, no alimony, born 3/9/48, INTP, conservative Midwestern value system. Live in San Luis Obispo County on the Central Coast of California, near the beach, but not far from the coastal mountains.

I am comfortably bald with graying light brown hair (my mother likes to think of me as blonde, not sure if that is good or not...), partially bearded, wear glasses over my blue eyes, stand 5'6", and need more exercise and less food (32" waist). Other than your basic allergies, I am in great health.

After graduating from college, I went to work for the Navy as a civilian, with the original thought of avoiding the draft. I ended up working for them for 25 years until 1995, when I took advantage of an opportunity to retire early. I have moved up the coast a ways to a slower, more laid-back, area where I can relax, teach, or continue with a second career.

It is difficult to describe someone in a few words, but if I were to pick a few they would most likely be:

These are described in Greater Detail Below.

What I Am Seeking

Obviously, I am seeking someone who enjoys many of the same things I do, but not necessarily all. I would hope that we would be interested in the unique activities of each other's, and new activities as well. In other words, there should be opportunities to learn and teach in the relationship.

I would rather you were a non-smoker, hope that you are a social drinker who enjoys a good bottle of wine or a microbrewery like I do, and have a solid value system without being overly religious. Older children are OK, especially if they are no longer at home. (Grin) I prefer a cat person to a dog person, but in any case you should be an animal lover, and nature lover, although I am generally turned off by radical environmentalists, and radical anythings.

You might be a few years older than I am, but not too much younger than I am, and about the same size as I am. I'm more interested in your mind than your body, and really enjoy a quiet evening at home in front of a fire with cats in our laps, sharing stories and a bottle of wine, laughing ourselves silly.

You need not be a computer nerd, or even own a computer, but should be comfortable with new technology. You should be educated with a lifelong desire to learn, and might be an artist or writer. If my past is any indication of the future, you will probably be a Leo or Pisces. (G)

Greater Detail Below

I could easily devote an entire page to each of those topics above, and in several cases they DO link to another page that gets into great detail on those topics. Happy? You betcha! Early retirement was just what I needed, and I didn't even read "New Passages" by Gail Sheehy until after I did it. I am still thinking about a second career, and it will be one that is related to my creative side.

People seek me out because of my creative mind and talents. Now that I have more time, I will be doing more paintings and other crafts, as well as more writing. I edit a number of newsletters because it gives me a chance to write on a regular basis, but I also have a couple of screen plays I am working with. I have written a number of essays and articles that have been printed in the newsletters I edit, and I continue to write jokes for my Creative Mischief SIG, a special interest group I founded and coordinate within Mensa. My sense of humor shows through in the jokes, the articles, my editor's columns, and even in some of my arts and crafts. Artistically, I am a surrealist, and have done some erotic works.

I have a BS in mechanical engineering, and an MS in electronics and computer engineering, but my most recent work was in programming and computer engineering. I still spend a lot of time on my computers at home, and offer some of that time and talent to organizations I am a member of. I hope to teach part-time at CalPoly again now that I am retired and in the area, or maybe at one of the two nearby community colleges. In the meantime I continue to present programs at Mensa gatherings, and am looking into building that seminar list into a part-time business. I also enjoy attending classes, and continue to learn as I prepare for the seminars and classes I teach. I often apply my analytical engineering background to other areas I am involved in.

Mensa is my primary source of activity, but I am also involved in the local ski club and three local singles clubs. I am the editor of our local Mensa newsletter, having served for several years as their president. (I seem to become the leader in whatever group I join.) I am also editing the newsletters for two of the singles groups, and may create a commercial newsletter or two as yet another part-time business.

I enjoy skiing, bicycling, sightseeing (including wine tasting), art shows, music festivals, fruit and vegetable festivals (strawberries, artichokes, broccoli, garlic, etc.), cats, gardening, writing, books, renaissance faires, tennis, coffee, chocolate, and more. Did I mention that I enjoy cooking?

Favorite movies include "The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai," "This is Spinal Tap," "A Fish Called Wanda," and all Monty Python movies. Favorite books include:

And all the stuff in the many boxes in the garage awaiting unpacking and shelving.

How to Contact Me

I would be delighted if you simply called, but understand why you might be reluctant to do that. So, you can send me e-mail or regular mail, and we can go from there.
