Oceano is one of the communities in "The Five Cities Area" of southern San Luis Obispo County on the Central Coast of California. Nearby Pismo Beach is another of the five cities, and better known. I am roughly halfway between Los Angeles and San Francisco.

I would rather not relocate, however, telecommuting positions are quite desirable.
I am quite PC literate and have had a presence on the World Wide Web for over a year and a half. (My sushi page was reviewed in the March 1995 NetGuide and the May 1996 Yahoo!, and has been incorporated in a number of books and programs worldwide.) The Navy activity I was with for 25 years was much admired by the fleet as an effective engineering support activity. We proudly worked with great independence and a "can do" attitude, and I still operate in that manner.
My last project with the Navy was the development of a missile launcher simulator running under Windows 3.1. It was written in C using version 1.5 of Microsoft Visual C/C++. Hardware controlled by the software included two 192-channel digital I/O boards, a digital-to-synchro converter board, and a synchro-to-digital converter board. While working on this project, I was also responsible for testing a contractor-developed training system that was the first Navy project to use Ada.
Other programs I worked with were written in BASIC, FORTRAN, and PL/M-86.

Computer Engineer (Software), 7/85 to 9/95. Duties included software engineering, programming, software testing, and independent verification and validation (IV& V) of Naval software for tactical and training systems. Programming included data extraction, data reduction, test tools, and simulators in C for VAX/VMS, MS-DOS, and MS Windows environments. Responsible for IV& V of contractor-developed training system written in Ada which used a MicroVAX for the Instructor Station and three 80x86 and 680x0 single board computers in the four Student Stations. Also responsible for IV& V of contractor-developed tactical system which uses an 80x86 display processor programmed in PL/M-86 and a MIL-STD-1750A data processor computer programmed in a proprietary FORTRAN.
Electronics Engineer, 6/84 to 7/85. Duties included development of the Canister Missile Test Set and Digital Pressure Recorder for Naval Weapon Stations. Attended training classes in ATLAS test equipment programming language for IEEE-488 bus.
Electronics Engineer, 6/83 to 6/84. Served as an Engineering Education Consultant in the Career Development Division. In this position, I managed the Electronics Engineering Conversion Program (now called the Engineering Cross Training Program) and the Junior Technician Program. I also taught several classes for the former program and was responsible for the operation of the new training facility. I continued to teach a class in Electrical Machinery (Cal Poly EE325 with enhancements) on an annual basis.
General Engineer, 8/82 to 6/83. Assigned to Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, as an Adjunct Professor of Electronic and Electrical Engineering by the NSWSES Technical Director. I taught an average teaching load of 12 WTU. Fall quarter I taught two lectures of EE201, a mix of EE365 and EE342 labs, and some Senior Projects. Winter quarter I taught two lectures of EE302 and three EE342 labs, as well as Senior Projects. Spring quarter I taught two lectures of EE325 and three labs of EE365. I was also actively involved with the Poly Phase Club and the student chapter of the IEEE. I did receive a Special Act Award of $1500 for my activities as an Adjunct Professor.
Electronics Engineer, 1/79 to 8/82, converted from Mechanical Engineer, 11/80. From 4/81 to 8/82 I was in the HARPOON Missile Handling Branch. My duties included teaching safe missile handling procedures as a part of periodic shipboard Certification procedures.
From 1/79 to 4/81, I was in the TERRIER Missile Launching Systems Branch. My duties were to manage the Solid State Conversion Program for the launcher, the purpose of which was to upgrade the 20-year-old systems for a service-life extension of another 20 years. The goal was to replace relay and microswitch logic systems with TTL and Hall- effect proximity switch logic. I also was the project engineer for the Launcher Refurbishment Program, wherein launchers were removed from ships, overhauled and upgraded, and reinstalled aboard ship.
Mechanical Engineer, 7/70 to 1/79. From 7/70 until 8/73, I worked in the Underway Replenishment Department, involved with the design and testing of shipboard ammunition and stores transfer equipment. I would design a piece of equipment, have a machine shop build it, test it at our test site, then take it out to sea aboard ship for actual shipboard testing.
From 8/73 to 1/79, I worked in the TARTAR Missile Launching Systems Branch. In addition to designing and building a launcher simulator for our test site, I also did a lot of engineering failure analysis and helped correct shipboard problems reported by the fleet. I also served as project engineer for the newest TARTAR launchers, attending program and design reviews at the contractor facilities and conducting many test programs. While in this position, I was awarded a Fellowship to attend CalState Northridge to work on my MS in EE, as a step in converting to an Electronics Engineer.
