Weird ElectroMechanics is an imaginary company created by Mark S. (Hutch) Hutchenreuther, B.S.M.E., M.S.E.E., P.E., founder and coordinator of the infamous Creative Mischief SIG of American Mensa. The alleged products listed on this page are from the demented mind of Hutch, and exist only on paper in the form of good old-fashioned hoaxes perpetrated by the Creative Mischief SIG.

Is Life Too Serious?

I think so, that's why I started the Creative Mischief SIG. My inspiration is diverse, and includes the National Lampoon magazine, the Annals of Improbable Research magazine, Monty Python's Flying Circus, Spinal Tap, and numerous humor books that have come out over the years spoofing something or other.

Is your organization taking itself too seriously? I can help. I created the first five products for COMDEX95 in Las Vegas, NV, and have created numerous other hoaxes (such as Pia) for various Mensa gatherings. I am also a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, two organizations I feel are in need of a bit of humor. Why not put me on your conference or convention schedule, where I can talk about a number of topics, including:

Weird ElectroMechanics -- a lecture on modern electromechanical devices you may not have learned about in that Electrical Machinery class you took years ago. A not-too- technical look at stepper motors, gnat robots, silicon ants, micromachines, and shape memory alloys.

Creative Mischief -- a lecture on various hoaxes I have perpetrated over the years, including those above. If you are really desperate, I can dress up in my pink bunny costume and come marching through that really boring meeting you are holding. Need to enliven that boring meeting? Check out my Laugh and Learn business page.

Coming Soon!

The Weird ElectroMechanics newsletter. A serious periodical that will help you keep up to date on the latest in weird electomechanical devices such as those I lecture on, as well as the not-so-weird devices that we now take for granted and have generally forgotten about.

Mark S. Hutchenreuther is registered in the State of California as a Mechanical Engineer, has a BS in Mechanical Engineering, Power Option, from Michigan Technological University, and a MS in Electronics and Computer Engineering from CalState Northridge. He worked for 25 years for the Naval Surface Warfare Center in Port Hueneme, CA as a mechanical, electronics, general, and computer software engineer, retiring early in September of 1995. He has cats, a sense of humor, a creative mind, and far too much time on his hands. He has recently moved to Oceano in San Luis Obispo County, where he hopes to teach part time at Cal Poly where he was an Adjunct Professor of EL/EE in 1982/3 or at Cuesta College, and founded the Institute of Weirdness, or something like that.

He has an address on the Internet and Compuserve, and maintains a bizarre home page.
