Harbor Seals
We saw the harbor seals on the rocks of Anacapa. Seals stay in the sea
for eight months. They travel 5,000 miles (8,000 kilometers) a year further
than any other mammals. During the entire trip, the seals swim to 10 to
100 miles (16 to 160 kilometers) from the coast and never go ashore. The
male may grow to be 21 ft. (6.4 meters) long and might weigh up to be 8,000
pounds (3,600 kilometers)
The Native Americans stretched the skin of the seals and sew them into
strips to make clothing.
