Common Gulls

Gulls are interesting creatures. They can be found almost anywhere, and will eat almost everything. Gulls will find mussels or abalone and will drop them on a hard surface to crack them open. They will then eat the meat inside.
On the Channel Islands there are more gulls because there are no predators. They will lay their eggs on the ground. The eggs are dark brown with light brown spots. A gull will lay one egg a day. After 3 weeks the first egg will hatch. A baby bird will peck at a red spot on one of the parents beaks to tell the parent that they are hungry.
One of the most amazing facts about common gulls is that they can eat both dead and alive creatures, and that they swoop down to the creature pick it up in its beak and will take it to the beach to eat. Sea gulls are noisy. Sea gulls usually fly in big flocks. That is what we learned about common gulls.
