Sea Star

The sea star is an amazing creature! One of its amazing talents are if its arm gets cut off or bitten
off it can grow back its arm! Most other sea animals can not grow back its arm or leg.
The sea star has five arms. But not all sea stars have five arms. Some have six arms some have
some have less than five arms and some may have up to 50 arms! They all feel like sand paper.
Scientists have found more than 1,800 different kinds of sea stars! These are some of the colors
that they might have on their bodies orange, red, blue, purple, yellow, and brown.
The most sea stars you will find live mostly along the coasts of North America. They like to live in
the ocean, warm or cold waters. Some sea stars live in the icy Antarctica Ocean! Ochre live by
clinging to rocks.
Sea stars are related to echinoderms. Scientists have also found out that there are 6,500 different
kinds of echinoderms. Sea stars are also related to Sea Urchins, Brittle stars, Sea Cucumbers,
and Basket stars.
Baby sea stars start out soft, and tiny. They are called Larvas.
Sea stars do not move really fast. Some force water through their bodies. Another uses the tip of
their arms.
Sea stars have poor senses but they are good predators. They cling on to a clam. Once the clam
gets tired and gives up so the sea star gets to have some clam for food.
The sea star usually eats clams, mussels, oysters, sea anemones, worms, sponges, and other sea
stars.
So that makes a sea star so special in its ways and actions.
