In the middle of September,on our first day in the garden we weeded, removed red needles and chips, and dug the soil and loosened it.

Danielle is weeding around the tomato plants.  We saved the tomato plants from last year, because they were still growing and we thought they were still producing tomatoes.  We harvested 2 big tomatoes and 20 cherry tomatoes in September. Fifth graders got to eat the tomatoes.

Before we planted, we tested the soil in the garden beds and in the compost bin.  We tested for nitrogen and the soil pH.  The soil in the beds was suitable for growing vegetables.  We added soil boosters to the compost bin.  Pablo, Jessica, and Alex are testing the compost bin.

Will is looking at the planting map.  The planting map tells us how deep to plant and how far apart to plant different vegetables.
