Our class is learning about our water system in Davis.  Our water is pumped from the ground, very deep in the ground.  We have learned that our newest, biggest pump in Davis is 1800 feet down!

Our class did an experiment to design water pumps like the ones we drink from every day.  We used water bottles, straws, and clay.  We assembled a pumping system by putting clay on top of the bottles so we could stop the air leaks.  Then we inserted straws into the bottles through the clay.  The bottles had different amounts of water in them.  Each group of students connected 2-5 bottles at a time.
Kevin, Casey, and Sierra are planning the layout of their pumps. Beatriz, Annabelle, and Bethany are placing their straws.
Elena and Esther are blocking the openings of the bottles with clay.
