Norman Rockwell Pencil Drafts
The pictures of Norman Rockwell (1894-1978) ware recognized and loved by almost everybody in America. The cover of The Saturday Evening Post was his showcase for over forty years, giving him an audience larger than that of any other artist in history. Two of the drawings shown here are from this showcase. Over the years Rockwell's Post illustrations became a unique collection of Americana, a series of vignettes of remarkable warmth and humor.
In addition, he painted a great number of pictures for story illustrations, advertising campaigns, posters, calendars, and books.
The purchase, by the Karpeles Manuscript Manuscript Library, of a Norman Rockwell pencil draft was originally conceived by Mr Karpeles when he was but 8 years old ... over 60 years ago. It is hoped that the small Norman Rockwell Pencil Draft Archive at the Karpeles will increase in size every year.
