Reserving Library Material

If the book you want is on loan to someone else or not immediately available at your library, you may ask the reference staff to place a hold for you or you may place the hold yourself through the Online Black Gold Public Access Catalog (OPAC)

To place a hold on a book, follow these instructions:

  1. Bring up the record of the item you want.

  2. At the screen where messages say "not at this library" or "all copies in use for this location", type "ph" without quotation marks (ph stands for "Place Hold") and press the ENTER (return)key.

  3. A SCREEN MESSAGE WILL STATE THAT THERE IS A $.50 FEE for the service, which is automatically charged to your library account.

  4. Type in your COMPLETE BARCODE NUMBER FROM THE FRONT OF YOUR LIBRARY CARD and press the ENTER (return) key. You will be asked for the last 4 digits of your phone number.

  5. If your hold does not go through, your phone number may have changed. See the reference librarian for assistance.

  6. A box will be displayed on the right of the screen. This box contains all the libraries where you can pick up your book. Type in the number of your preferred pickup location.

  7. The $.50 fee for the hold is paid at time of pickup.

That's all there is to it. You will be notified by phone when the item becomes available for you to pick up at your library.

If the book you want is not listed in the Black Gold Catalog, check the holdings of the "Additional Libraries" shown on the main menu of the catalog or ask at the Reference Desk. The library may be able to borrow the book for you from another library through interlibrary loan.
