Zouave
1. Print out this design. (Click Here).
2. Cut out zouave and his rifle and rifle lock.
3. Fold him forward in two along the back. Fasten halves of head together with a tape loop and glue the nose and chin together with a bit of glue on a toothpick. Smear the tassel with glue, fold it over and bend it down. Don't panic if it breaks off. Just glue or tape it back on.
3. Bend base loop around the front and staple together. Put creases into the base loop straight down from the shoes at the toes and the heels. Fold the shoe tops over like brogens. Fold the little flanges of green at right angles away from the base loop. (See photo.) These should help the model stand up on carpets and blankets. He is supposed to be carrying something in his arms to balance him out.
4. Fasten the arm halves together with tape loops at the upper arms and forearms. This will allow you to bend the arms into realistic positions. Glue the arms onto the back, even with the shoulders. Tape also works.
5. Make the rifle. Just cut it out, fold it over sharply, add a smear of glue and trim the fearsome saber bayonet into something pointy. Cut out percussion lock and glue it where it belongs.
6. Fasten the body together. Put glue on the inside of the belt buckle and center it on top of the rest of the back and glue it. It helps to hold the glued bits of paper together for a minute between thumb and forefinger. Next do the jacket and pantoloons. Hold the parts together with thumb and forefinger and tape the parts together from the inside with your other hand. Round out the chest and pantaloons.
7. Bend the arms at the shoulders, elbows, and wrists to whatever pose you want and then tape or glue the rifle into his hands.
