Here are designs for easy-to-make paper Civil War soldiers that you can download from this site and print out on your printer. All that is needed is scissors, clear tape, a stapler and glue.
To download a design, use whatever way works best for your particular browser, computer, and printer. Basically you either click on the print icon or click your cursor on top of the image and scroll to the "save this image" command, then you can print it out whenever you want. Free for non-profit use! No color printer? Just color them yourself or print them out on light blue paper for Union or grey for Confederate.

Although these designs will work with cheap computer paper, you can photocopy your printout onto colored cardstock for a sturdier and more colorful soldier. You can also use crayons, paint, colored pencils/pens, etc., on your soldiers, but it is best to do this before gluing them together. Civil War purists will want to color them like their favorite units. You can also add volume by putting little creases where the shoulders and hips are on the bodies. This makes them stand up better as well as look better.

New! Improved Bases to Stand On!

Wanna take it outside? Okay! Now with just another sheet of paper your men can scale any mountain, survive any breeze, and withstand anything but a direct hit from a dirtclod!!
All of our designs can be retrofitted to these bases. If printing out soldiers on colored paper, use the same color paper for the bases. Fold up like so:

Then trim away the base paper of the soldier, cutting straight down at the toe and heel of the shoe, leaving a flap. Fold these flaps in at a right angle. Staple these flaps to the base. The red lines show where the flaps go. Repeat with two more guys. File done!

If mounting an individual soldier to a base, fold up the paper the same way. Trim the soldier's base flaps if necessary and then staple his feet to the platform. If desired, trim the corners away.

If mounting a soldier with a green-colored base strip to a base, fold up a piece of green construction paper the same way. Don't have green paper? No problem, just print this out, Trim away the white and fold it up with the green on top. Staple together.Trim the soldier's base flaps if necessary and then staple his feet to the platform, flaps folded outward (green on green). Cut out the tuft of grass (if there is one), fold it at a right angle, and staple or glue it on the deck . If desired, trim the corners away.
