Marine NCO
1. Print out this design. (Click Here). Put a few drops of glue onto a pice of scap cardboard and use it with a toothpick to make this model.
2. Cut out Marine NCO and his pistol and the two parts for his sword..
3. Fold him forward in two along the back. Fasten halves of head together with a tape loop and glue the nose and chin together with a bit of glue on a toothpick.
3. Bend base loop around the front and staple together. Put creases into the base loop straight down from the shoes at the toes and the heels. Fold the shoe tops over like brogens.
4. Fasten the arm halves together with tape loops at the upper arms and forearms. This will allow you to bend the arms into realistic positions. Glue the arms onto the back, even with the shoulders. Tape also works. Put realistic bends into the elbows shoulders and wrists and then tape or glue the pistol and sword into his hands. (If you use tape, you can change them back and forth easily.)
5. Make the Lemat revolver. Just cut it out, fold it over sharply, and add a smear of glue. The sword: fold over the blade. Put a little glue in the grip, but not on the blade as this will make it soggy and warp. A sharp crease will keep the sword blade rigid. Put a slice through the slot in the brass knuckle guard (an X-acto knife works best).Then shape the paper knuckleguard into a nice curve and glue the two flaps at the end over the pommel of the grip.

Our Conferate Marine NCO wears the summer uniform (white trousers) and is armed with the powerful 10-shot Lemat revolver and 1860 model U.S. Naval cutlass. His rank was denoted by black chevons on his flock coat, pointing upward. Army NCO's of the period wore theirs pointing down. Confederate Marines were first commissioned in 1861. They were aboard the CSS Virginia during her battle with the Monitor at Hampton Roads. There were Confederate Marine officers and men with Lee when he surrendered. They also fought at Fort Fisher in January of 1864 when American Marine fought American Marine. The Confederate Marines drove back the Union Marines. It was left to the Army to take Fort Fisher.
