The Beltane Wheel

I use a flamberg. Martial artists familiar with the nunchaku will recognize the basic moves.

The Edward Teach

I use a Chinese Darn-doh, although a cutlass or any saber will do. A katana or straight-sided or tapering blade would not do as the expanding metal would loosen the kevlar sleeve.

Materia pyromanica: my fire toys (yes, the picture is sideways). Flamberg, top left, made in Spain, 5 ' 1" long with four feet of kevlar. Below it a telescoping fire staff. It goes from 3 feet to 6 foot four with four in between sizes (shown is 4' 10"). Lightweight double fire sticks I used at Burning Man. Then double fire sticks with detachable perforated wick ends. On far right, regulation sai with holes drilled through the tips and fire balls attached with wire. Then my Chinese doh with two feet of kevlar and my poi balls.

I love my meteor hammer. It twirls, spins, rotates, flies, slices, and dices! Not much to look at: seven feet of duct tape reinforced kevlar bolted to snap-on swivels ("Ya gotta have swivels, both ends." says Cody Chrome.) attached to standard poi balls (accordian-wrapped kevlar). The trick is to hold it with your hands about two feet apart, and then do a double figure-8 until you've built up enough speed for it to rotate on its own.
This is a Sarm Geet Gwam, literally "three-section-staff," a kung fu weapon. The meteor hammer is based on this.

"Is that a fire stick in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?" A couple of solutions to traveling with with a fire staff. Above: telescoping staff at maximum 6 foot 4 " length, break-down staff at 6 foot length, and stort stick at 4 foot length.

Telescoping staff at 2 foot 6 inch length, break down staff with detachable wick end (perforated "turbo" design by Dave King), aluminum rod with threaded wooden dowel, plastic link, more dowl, plastic link, and aluminum rod with wick unit attached. Longest part is 2 feet. Short stick with wicks detached is 3 feet long. The plastic eventually broke. I now use only all-metal designs.

Close-up of different wick ends. Top: detachable wick end attached. Wood screws are used on middle telescoping staff made from a luggage carrier. Bolts are used on all my other fire toys. Bottom: detachable wick end detached. Break down staff was made with metal parts from a senior citizen's walker bought at the thrift store, and a three section wooden rod from the hardware store.
Break down design also lends itself to a handy 4 foot 8 inch length.
