ARTICLE 7 - SCHOOL CALENDAR AND EMPLOYEE WORK YEAR
- A joint committee on school calendar shall be established and
shall consist of two (2) representatives selected by the
Executive Committee of the Association and two (2) representatives
appointed by the Board. The non-voting chairperson of the
committee shall be the Superintendent, or the Superintendent's designee,
making it a committee of five members. The committee shall meet
to consider and recommend to the Board a calendar for the
ensuing year. The committee shall submit its recommendations to
the Board prior to January 1 or as soon thereafter as the
recommendations are completed.
- The school calendar for the ensuing year, as determined in
paragraph A, shall be published immediately following Board adoption.
- The school calendar shall consist of one hundred eighty-three (183)
days. Three (3) days may be used at the discretion of the Board to
compensate for emergency school closings or for establishing
professional conference days, or both. Whenever one of these days
is used as a professional conference day, teachers and teacher
assistants shall report in order to engage in professional development
and planning activities. Should any of the three (3) days for these
purposes remain unused, the Board, at its discretion, may close
schools a number of days equal to the number of unused days. It is
understood that, should more than three (3) days be used for
emergency closings, the spring recess may be affected.
