DMS Hike Club Classics!
(2000 - 2001)
Here are a few highlights from the 2000 - 2001 DMS Hike Club!
This Year in Hike Club...
- November 30, 2000
- For the first time in many years, we went to Cold Springs Bridge and
climbed on the supports of this remarkable structure over a wild canyon.
We found old Hike Club
grafitti dating back to 1988, still intact after the major construction
on the bridge a few years ago! I thought it was all gone.
This is spit-writting on the dusty bridge supports,
not spray paint, very cool! I thought of you, Tia.
- November 2, 2000
- We went to Sedgewick Ranch to collect seeds with Julie.
This was a low-key hike club in a beautiful wild forest with Live Oaks, Blue Oaks, and Valley Oaks
all growing together. There were no mushrooms, despite recent rains.
It sure gets dark early after the switch from Daylight Savings Time!
- October 19, 2000
- We went to Tyler's house and hiked down the flowing Santa Ynez River towards Lompoc.
"Hiking down the river was like going back in time..."
We ended up with a memorable water-weed war!
- October 12, 2000
- We explored the caves and climbed on the rocks at Lizard Mouth, near the end of the pavement on West Camino Cielo.
Fun to explore, and great climbing rocks, but hard on the hands!
- September 28, 2000
- We went to Refugio Beach, which is pretty close to Paradise!
The water was too cloudy for snorkling, the surf was flat, and it smelled like a dead sea lion!
But it was low tide and there were occasional sets to keep us on our toes.
What a beautiful beach, just a hike club away from school!
- September 21, 2000
- It was 100+ degrees earlier this week, but the temperature fell 30+ degrees on
Thursday for the first Hike Club of the year. By tradition, we went to the
swimming hole at the 2nd crossing of Paradise, and the cool weather didn't
slow us down at all!
