What is the Black Gold Cooperative Library System?

Our local library belongs to the Black Gold Cooperative Library System, which was formed in 1964. The system encompasses an area of 8,000 square miles, covering Ventura, San Luis Obispo, and Santa Barbara counties. Over one million people are provided with library services.

The major benefits are:

Patrons may use the services of all the libraries without charge.
Patrons may request their local library to borrow a book, magazine, or other material from another System library and have the requested item delivered to their local library for check out.
Patrons may ask their local library to forward an information request to the System's reference staff if an answer cannot be found locally.

Patrons have access to databases and other automation services available through the Internet.

Your local library card is the only card you need to check out materials in the Black Gold system, except for the Ventura County libraries. You must have a Ventura County library card to check out materials in its branches. Ventura County libraries maintain their own cataloging system separate from Black Gold's catalog. You may return library materials at any member library building in the Black Gold Cooperative Library System, as well as to any Ventura County branch library!
